Believe it or not, this blog was dead not long ago.  As I began to finalize the MLM Blog Secrets training (on sale now for only $47 until June 19th), I started to realize that even though my other blog, MLM Blog was a traffic hording, lead and cash producing machine, this blog at TyTribble.com was sucking wind.

Sometimes I really have to wonder what people are thinking.

For example, Jonathan Budd and Mark Hoverson are in the middle of launching MLM Launch Formula.  During the launch, Jonathan and Mark will release 6 videos filled with content and high quality training…all for free, yet some people seem to be afraid that my boys, JB and Mark are going to try to “sell you something” so they are hesitant to go check out the videos.  Well, of course they are going to sell something, they’d be stupid not to.

Here are my thoughts on this:

1. Grab all of the free training you can get.

2. When something really resonates with you, buy it. (I spend thousands of dollars a year on my continuing education.)

3. Take that information that you bought, apply it to your business and teach it to your team. (I don’t charge my team a penny for training, they get all of my best stuff for free, including a soon to be complete Internet Marketing University.)

Write Something

I did not become a great blogger by thinking about blogging.  I became a great blogger (believe me, I use the term “great” very loosely) by writing something.  When I couldn’t think of anything to write, I found something neat that someone else wrote and let my readers know about it.

Here is the ultra cool thing about finding great stuff from other people to post on your blog:

If you go to MLMURLS.com and read some of the great blogs every day, posting a snip from your favorite article on your blog (with full credit of course), you will begin to form your own cool ideas that will eventually become a cool blog post of your own.

Tell Others About It

This is why I love Twitter.  For a long time, I didn’t really get Twitter, but that was before I found something that very few people know about:

Did you know that you can go to Twitter Search and find people who are interested in your niche that also live within a few miles of your home?

It’s absolutely insane, as if Twitter left it’s back door wide open for you with a note that says: “Have at the fridge, Bro”.

You follow people, some follow you back, then you share your blog posts with them.  Remember, they are also interested in your niche so they begin to look forward to what you are sharing.  You gain trust and confidence as a thought leader and trusted advisor.

Repeat

Do it every day, 5 days a week and watch what happens after a month.

There’s more to it, of course so I go into this much greater depth in a free video that will be launching next week.  In the video, I introduce you to my 9 year old son, Tyler who will actually teach you a Internet Marketing technique that he learned from Frank Kern.  I think you will like it.

I am about to let you in on a dirty little secret that has the potential to send the Internet Marketing/Network Marketing world into a frenzy.

Google is slamming the door on Pay-per-click campaigns right and left.  YouTube is shutting down accounts with about as much thought that you put into shutting off a light bulb and as far as Squidoo is concerned, MLM (a perfectly legal business model that has been around for over 50 years and does over $100 billion in sales world wide) is being lumped in with outright spam and “defamatory, libelous, tortuous, vulgar, obscene, invasive of privacy, racially or ethnically objectionable, hateful, promotes or provides instructional information about illegal activities, or promotes any act of cruelty to animals”.

Bottom line: You are in big trouble (or you will be, it’s just a matter of time) if you are trying to market your business with these methods.

I could name, names of those that I know who have been hit and unless your head has been buried in the sand for the last 3 years, you would absolutely recognize them.

Imagine you are creating hundreds or in some cases thousands of leads per month by using Google Pay Per Click and then one day, virtually out of the blue, Google shuts down your account.  You desperately try to get in contact with someone (anyone!) at Google to figure out what you did wrong and the answer you get back is “You are in violation of our policies”. Then it’s cricket’s chirping.  No further response or dialogue.

Same thing with YouTube, where a friends account was wiped out (nearly 500 videos worth of work) and no explanation given and worse, no way to even respond!

Squidoo is possibly the worst…they are now telling you upfront that no mater how legal your business is, it’s spam and thrown into a heap with X-rated material. I once created a site on Squidoo called “MLM Ranking”, it was simply a list of MLM companies with the option for readers to vote for their favorite on the list. Kinda cool, really.

Here is a snip of the email I get this week from Squidoo:

We posted in July 2009 about a policy update that would disallow the creation and hosting of X rated and Adult lenses on our site, as well as lenses on what we’ve determined to be spam topics. We publicized these changes early on in an effort to give you significant headsup time to either change your lenses or export your Adult content and take it elsewhere.

As of today, the below lens or lenses have been locked from view and will be deleted:

So where does that leave you?

Actually it’s both bad news and good news.  Bad news is that there is little hope in duplicating the results of the gurus who got rich off of Pay-Per-Click…but the good news is actually two-fold.

1. The playing field has just been leveled, offering the newest marketer a unique window of amazing opportunity to make an impact and stay ahead of the curve.
2. There is a safe and effective method of marketing available to you and it doesn’t take a ton of money or expertise to get it rolling…if you hadn’t guessed, it’s blogging!

Blogging (done right) allows you the opportunity to truly own your online real estate, a virtual home base on the Internet.  You can’t say that about PPC, Twitter, Facebook, Article Marketing or Video Marketing.

I have been tooting the blog horn for a long time now, but I have never really done anything to train people on the subject.  However, based on the number of emails I get that relate to “how to blog?”, I decided to create a solution that will be heading your way in June….stay tuned for a big announcement.

The topic of finding your niche came up a couple of times recently in the comments here  so I thought it would be good to make a blog post and explore how to find your blog niche.

Here is the most important thing to remember: Only you can define your niche.

We could do some quick keyword research and find a handful of neat ideas to create a blog around, but choosing a topic that is not near and dear to your heart, mind and soul is most often a one way ticket to the dead blog zone. The number of dead blogs is astounding and I don’t want to send you down that that path.

My passion is to help you create a home base online (a blog) that is a thriving piece of online real estate, bringing in new customers, business partners and cash.

Finding Your MLM Blog Niche

There is a goal clarification exercise that I like to do in the format of an NCAA Final Four March Madness tournament.  The exercise would be a good one to got through in order to clarify your passion and zero in on your niche.  One thing to keep in mind is that in many cases the niche that you choose is also a means to help you accomplish other important goals in your life.

So here’s how this works.  The NCAA Basketball tournament has 64 teams in different regions.

For our exercise we are going to use different areas of our lives as regions.

These include:

• Physical
• Financial
• Spiritual
• Family
• Education/Personal Development
• Fun/Leisure
• Service/Charity
• Business/Career

To get started, you need to list 8 things that you want to accomplish in each of these areas, then list them in the bracket in groups of 8.

After you have listed your 8 things that you want to accomplish in each area, you begin to run a tournament deciding the most important.

For example, let’s say that in my service and charity bracket, I have:

- Give $1 Million A Year To My Church
vs.
- Spend A Month In Africa On Mission

I would need to decide which is more important to me personally.  Remember, there is no wrong answer, just the answer you feel is more important.  In some cases accomplishing one thing will naturally allow you to accomplish the other, so keep that in mind as you go through the bracket.

Once you get through this exercise you will have a pretty good idea about your passions and what drives you, then think about how that applies to your business goals and you should be a lot closer to finding your niche.

Here is a bracket worksheet that you can print out and run your own passion tournament.

When I first started blogging back in 2003, I had a couple of things going for me:

1. I was in completely uncharted territory…no one even knew what a blog was, let alone had any expectations for creating traffic and leads.
2. I was having fun, telling my story and communicating with people who had an interest in my niche (it wasn’t work for me).

Having said that, I think it’s important to tell you that the climate for creating a blog (your own home base online) that attracts readers, customers and prospects today is way better than when I got started.

Some people see increased competition and I see increased awareness and social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook that allow you to create instant traffic.

In order to build a successful home base online with your blog, you need to have some realistic expectations.  But here is the kicker, realistic is actually awesome when you break it down and look at the numbers.

I think a realistic goal for your first 30 days of blogging is 30 unique visitors a day.  Again, some will look at that number and say  ”How can I make an impact with so few readers?”  The answer is in the math.  30 readers a day is actually close to 1,000 readers a month and over 10,000 readers in a year.

The frustration comes when you compare yourself to my MLM Blog that is ranked in the top 40 Small Business Blogs on the internet and gets a ton of traffic.  Stop it!  You shouldn’t be comparing your site to one that has been around for over 6 years.

Compare your blog numbers to how many people you talked to about your business yesterday.
