Somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 to 75% of the readers of my newsletter are currently involved in the Network Marketing industry and I would assume that the numbers are similar here on my blog. I would also assume that many of those readers are involved in Network Marketing to make money.

If you are among those currently involved in Network Marketing and looking to make money, this is a rant blog post for you.

Some of you need to stop thinking about marketing and start selling some products and sponsoring some people!

We are in a crazy time in the world of Network Marketing and Internet Marketing. There are so many courses, products and training programs on the subject that I think many people have lost focus of their objective in the first place.

Bottom Line: “You get bogged down with stuff that doesn’t put money in your pocket.”

What to do?

Well if your objective is to make money, you do that by selling products and sponsoring others, right?

So, how much of your time are you dedicating to making calls to people to see if they are open to looking at an opportunity?

How much of your time is spent following up with people who have watched your video (or however you present your business)?

Last Thursday, I did an Internet Marketing Intensive Training Webinar on Twitter for my newest team members and while we went into some of the basics of setting up Twitter for success, we also spent a lot of time “going guerrilla” and finding people to connect with and call right now! If you are interested in the training, I am going to open it up to people outside of my team in September so stay tuned.

My point with all this is that if you have a choice between spending two hours studying WordPress widgets or two hours making phone calls to potential business partners, are you making the right decision?

Read positive mental attitude book and meditate? Nyet.

So what makes you money in MLM?

1. Acquiring new customers and business partners.
2. Helping current business partners acquire more customers and business partners.

Let’s break it down even further.  I am building a nutritional company, so I eat/drink my stuff and tell people about it.

How many people did you tell about your products and/or business last week?

How many times did you pick up the phone and offer to help a team member tell someone about the products and/or business?

Many of us will look at this list that includes Twitter and WordPress and go “duh”, but many of us are also emerged in this Social Media Circus on a daily basis and we don’t stop long enough to realize that some small businesses (and Network Marketers) are struggling to even figure out the best platform to build a web site.

I am pretty sure that I heard this quote from Brad Wolgamott when I was an Amway Distributor on the 90′s:

“In order to empower others, you must first be powerful.”

It’s no secret that you gain power with knowledge and that is one of the reasons why I read five to six books a months and spend thousands of dollars a year on my education.

back in my Amway days, the book list we were provided did not include much in the way of new information. I can pretty much guarantee that Perry Marshall, Dan Kennedy and Yanik Silver, (all masters of marketing) have not made their way to the World Wide Dream Builders book list.

But thanks to my time spent in Amway, I learned how to become a student and I learned the value of self improvement and continuing education. I guess I should mention that I created my first six-figure Network Marketing income shortly after leaving Quixtar, which was the online version of Amway.

Anyway, as a leader, you must learn to empower the people in your business to achieve their best and brightest and I don’t believe that you can do that without building a better you, through personal development.

Remember, the difference between a professional and a $2.97 bonus check earner is knowledge and persistence, not talent.
