Growing up, my Dad was a high level manager at the Boeing Company, where he worked in Boeing Computer Services.

Yet, in 1988 (the year I graduated from High School) we did not have a computer in our home.

Think about that.

One of the highest level executives at Boeing Computer Services didn’t own a computer in 1988.

I was 18 that year and if I remember right, roughly 5 years later, I got my first (hand-me-down) computer.

It looked something like this:

Those were the days of AOL, “you’ve got mail” and chat rooms.

When it would take like 5 minutes and an awful screeching sound to get online, only to be kicked off 5 minutes later.

Welcome to my world.

I didn’t own a computer until I was 23 years old.

Like most of you, I’m an immigrant in the world of technology.

Fast-forward to today…

Let’s look at my 14 year old daughter, Emma.

Here’s what Emma’s computer(s) look like:

Emma has never experienced a home without a computer.

Emma is a native in the world of technology.

You are not alone.

Add on the pressure of trying to learn how to build your business online and the frustration turns into overwhelm and paralyzed home business owners.

Ahhhh, but I wouldn’t make you re-live the pain of feeling 100% lost online without at least offering a solution…would I?

Nope. I wouldn’t.

See, just after 9-11-2001, I lost my “cushy” outside sales job and that was about the time that my wife discovered the art of selling our junk on eBay for profit.

One day I was looking over her shoulder and saw that she sold a dress that my daughter had outgrown for about 100 times the price that it would typically sell for at a garage sale.

Long story, short, we became the 2nd largest eBay sellers in the State of Washington and our business was featured all over the place, including Entrepreneur magazine.

I learned a ton about marketing online and a couple of years later, began to apply what I learned to the world of Network Marketing.

In January of 2003, I placed my first Google Adwords ad for Network Marketing (pretty sure that ad was the first Network Marketing ad ever on Google).

In October of 2003, I launched MLMBlog.net, one of the first blogs on the subject of Network Marketing…that blog still ranks at the top of Google.

Between 2003 and 2004, I personally sponsored over 100 people into my primary business and made a six-figure income shortly thereafter.

I learned through painstaking trial and error.

And today, I have a straightforward and fool-proof strategy for marketing any business online.

I’m a teacher at heart and I love spending time with students, helping them breakthrough and see the light at the end of the tunnel, which is why I love coaching people.

With a little guidance, you have the ability to create something that can change your life.

Anyways, enough with the trivia and on with the meaty goodness of this email.

If you ever searched the Internet in a desperate attempt to “figure this junk out” only to find yourself bumping up against the same 3 or 4 of the same looking ads and pages from just a small handful of leaders, you will understand exactly what I mean by ad blindness.

After the 3rd or 4th time seeing the same ad or page, you pretty much become blind to it.

I mean seriously, I bet there are hundreds of you who could do a better Jonathan Budd, Ann Sieg or David Wood better than they can.

And those boys and the lovely and talented Ann are some of the best marketers in the industry.  If you are getting weary watching the best marketers in the industry over and over again, imagine what it would be like if you blasted yourself out there for a couple of weeks.

There is a reason why people have jumped from one system to another…from Renegade to MLSP to Magnetic to iLead System, back to MLSP and so on…

Part of the reason is that people simply do not follow instructions very well (sorry it’s true).

I have used MLSP, Magnetic, Renegade and (for garsh sakes) I am the founder of iLead System and I created leads using all of them.

If I had a dime for every time I heard that MLSP and iLead System are “too complicated”, well it would be a lot of dimes.

Truth is, most of the time people don’t give themselves enough credit for how smart they really are and give up too early.

But when I hear the same thing over and over again, I decided to stop writing these people off and do something about it.

Keeping it really simple is the mantra behind my launch of “The Factory”.

The other reason I launched “The Factory” is to keep things Fresh…it’s the reason we launch a new training by a respected leader along with a lead pulling capture page every two weeks.

Which leads me to today’s tip…

There is a time and a place for branding yourself.

What I am really rallying against is the time people spend on “branding” before they really have anything to brand.

When I first got started marketing online, I actually used Mike Dillard’s Magnetic Sponsoring and Ann Sieg’s Renegade System to create leads and build my list.  I utilized Mike and Ann’s marketing funnel because I didn’t have the time, knowledge or brand in place to create something more effective.

After a while, I began to create my own marketing funnel and leads because I had digested so much training and content on marketing online that I actually had something of real value to offer people.

As I have been working on the “The Factory“,  I have exposed you to the two main goals with a “keep it super simple” mantra:

1. Learn money producing skills from the industry’s top leaders.

2. Share that training in the form of a mini-marketing funnel (provided by The Factory) to create leads.

What I haven’t exposed you to is my long term plan for you and “The Factory”.

See, the true underlying mission of The Factory is to build leaders.

I believe that some of the greatest future training will come directly from members of The Factory.

It’s about building a better you through learning skills from current leaders…

It’s a process, right? You learn, you create leads, you build your list and as you gain knowledge, you begin to share it with others.

You will naturally move in the direction of branding yourself by sharing what you have learned.

When a site starts to attract people’s attention, gaining traffic and momentum, you can be sure that skilled and creative Internet marketers are thinking about ways to make money with Pinterest.

The general idea of Pinterest is to create a board, name it and then “pin” pictures to the board.  Each picture you “pin” can have a corresponding link. You can also pin videos.

Pinning pictures on particular topics tends to attract people interested in same niche and users have the ability to follow (and unfollow) each other in a similar fashion to Twitter.

People also have the opportunity to share what they find with their followers.

Believe it or not, images can be a large traffic source for blogs and it doesn’t surprise me that Pinterest has been designed to capitalize on the premise (of course taking the idea much further).

As far as growth goes, Pinterest is smoking hot. According to comScore, it is the fastest site to reach 10 million unique monthly visitors in history.

I’ve been busy so I haven’t requested an invitation to Pinterest until now, but one of the things I am interested in doing once I am invited is to create a bit of  ”dream refrigerator”.  Back in the day when I first had the dream of working from home, my wife and I would cut out pictures of the things we wanted to accomplish and put them on our refrigerator. I’m looking forward to creating something similar on Pinterest.

When it comes to making money with Pinterest, it’s really a matter of creating boards that attract people and then posting pins that people want to click and having some type of connecting offer or lead capture page on the other end.

74% of Super Bowl viewers age 18 to 34 interacted with their mobile device (phone, iPad, etc).

Nearly 60% of all viewers had some sort of mobile device interaction whether it be a text to a friend, looking up a stat or “Googling” a song.

Or if you came to my Super Bowl party, I could have told you the song was “She Sells Sanctuary” by The Cult mashed up with something by Flo Rida.

Yes, I am a freak of nature when it comes to music of the 80′s and 90′s. = )

The big question, (yes, bigger than The Cult) is “What does this whole mobile thing mean?”

Well, I don’t have time to get into everything but let’s list a couple of things to think about:

1. Apps will overtake Software in the near future. What this means exactly?  I have no idea, but I suspect that having an app for business will be a good idea in the future.
2. Mobile Search is exploding. I actually created a product not long ago that is designed to take full advantage of mobile and local search on Google.  It’s like a “back door” to Google’s first page.

Now, (I beg you) please don’t freak out and think that you need to go buy an iPad and develop an app. You don’t.

Let’s take Baby Steps, OK.

But, there is no reason why you can’t land your business on Google page # 1, I did it for my business and also for my son’s baseball coach as a test to see if I could do it for any business, my blueprints lay this out and it’s a pretty simple process.

P.S. “Ty, I get the feeling this is a mass mailer.  You ask a friendly question that is also a nosey question but if someone answers then you have a lead.”

Well, I would answer that by saying that if I send you an email, you are already my lead for something. = )

Next I would say that you are absolutely correct that I do not type the same “Where Are You From?” email tens of thousands of times a year.

I use a tool to help me manage my emails…

…called an autoresponder and it might be most important tool in your arsenal.

And I would follow that up by saying that I am not only nosey, I am also extremely curious…to the point where I sometimes give away hundreds of dollars worth of coaching (for free) because I want to know what is ticking inside that brain of yours.

So was my “Where Are You From” email an evil plot to wave my magic wand and turn you into a lead?

Nah, not really.

(I will actually tell you when I have an evil plot going because I will need minions.  Lots of minions.)

It is, however a plot to connect with you on a more intimate level.

Yeah, he really called me “Bug Eyes”…

Pretty sure it was because I had these blue eyes that were way too big for my face.

My daughter Emma got the same eyes and she just gets “Oh my gosh, your eyes are so pretty”.

And I got “Hey, Bug Eyes”.

I’m cool with it…no real scarring. Besides, funny nick names are like a badge of honor in our family.

But Grandpa Ed’s “you learn something new everyday” saying has really struck me this year.

My birthday is in January and I honestly feel like I am learning more right now (every day) than I have in any other time in my life.

The big lesson I want to pass on to you today is to be ready for change.

My email newsletter used to consist of a picture of a James Bond looking guy with a focus on revealing secrets related to the Network Marketing industry.

When I first came up with the idea, I thought it would be cool to be kind of “secret agent like” and I had fun with it, but at some point I came to the realization that I am not really a secret agent.

I know…hard to believe, eh?

After a while, I got bored with the shtick and I am pretty sure that my female readers never really related to it in the first place.

So it was time for a change.

But what was going to be my shtick this time?

After some serious thought, an idea began to form. This was about the same time that I ran across an email expert who I knew of before, but never really dug very deep into his stuff. Much more on the Secret Email Expert in the future.

Heh.  There I go again with the whole secret agent stuff. = )

Well, after reading a bunch of his emails and thinking back to what I learned about email at a $10,000 mastermind weekend, I realized what  I needed to do.

My emails didn’t need a shtick.  They needed a real and authentic voice….the real me.

So from now on what you see is what you get. If I learned a lesson that related to marketing and making money online by taking my 11 year old son to a “birds and the bees” class…

…Be prepared to hear about it.

Now, since I took the time to explain all of that, I am going to save the Canned Ham winner until tomorrow.

The number one way to make moolah on and off  line is (drumroll): Make customers happy!

When you provide a product or service that makes people really happy (that solves a problem for them) you will basically be able to print money at will.

If you are struggling online right now, you might want to write down the ways that what you are selling makes people happy and solves problems.

I am pretty sure that you do not have to be a baseball genius in order to successfully coach a T-Ball team.

But there are a couple of things that you do need…

1. A loud voice.
2. A plan.

We would practice a few blocks from our house at a local elementary school and my wife would tell me that she could hear me giving instruction from about 3 blocks away.

Yep, I’m one of those loud talkers.

Loud on the phone, loud when talking to friends at a restaurant, just loud in general I guess.

So what does a loud voice have to do with getting results online?

Well online, a loud voice doesn’t really have anything to do with volume.

It has to do with the number of people who can hear you.

If you are expanding your list on a daily basis, then every day your voice gets a little louder.

Your influence becomes a little stronger and your ability to sell something or sponsor someone gets a little more likely.

Next and probably even more important than a loud voice was my plan.

Before I decided to coach, I watched several T-Ball games and did my best to get inside the head of a first time T-Ball player at the age of 4 years old.

I know what you are thinking…

“Ty, it had to be pretty easy to get inside of the head of a 4  year old for you since that is pretty close to your mental age anyways!”

Not funny at all.

OK, pretty funny. But back to the plan.

So my plan was to focus on the very basic fundamentals of T-Ball.

And we drilled and practiced these fundamentals like crazy.

We didn’t run around to all kinds of baseball web sites to learn the latest hitting techniques and the latest infield drills.

It was an all out laser focus on the basics.

• Where do you stand in the field?
• What do you do with the bat after you hit the ball?
• Where do you run?
• Where do you throw?

Again, we did not work on the finer points of a hitters swing.

We worked on where to run and on NOT throwing the bat after we hit the ball.

My point?

I know people who have spent thousands of dollars over the last 12 months on every single guru launch without even spending 5 minutes or 5 dollars on developing a plan.

So, do you have a plan for your business?

Do you know what you need to be working on?

Action steps?

A blueprint?

I’m not picking on you here.

Most people have no plan at all.

They run from shiny launch to shiny launch and pray that ”this secret technique” (that they just spent $297 on) will be the one.

So grab a sheet of paper and see if you can draw out your plan.
