I’m guilty.

If you put me on trial, the jury would take 30 minutes to convict me only if 28 of the 30 minutes were taken up by eating a ham sandwich and using the bathroom with 2 minutes to deliberate.

I once used a headline that said something along the lines of “I Created 10,000 Leads Online In The Last 12 Months, Download This Free Video And I’ll Show Your How I Did It”.  Pretty good headline actually, but this is not a blog post about headlines, it’s a blog post about being realistic, thoughtful and determined to make money in your business.

I recently saw a guy on Facebook claiming that he created 500,000 leads (whoop tee doo) and I recently spoke with someone who suggested that if he didn’t get up to 20 leads a day, he would never be able to build his business. This is where I want to scream.  There is a lot of great training out there for our industry today, but not nearly enough people implementing that training. We seem confused and paralyzed and that is not a place to be if you want to grow. The guy that figures he must create 20 leads a day is paralyzed because he is comparing himself to the guy who has 500,000 leads. So he does nothing with his business.

Please…I’m begging you.

Stop letting thousands of dollars slip through your fingers because you are so hung up on duplicating a Guru Superstar.

You are not going to be Katie Freiling or Daegan Smith overnight. Love those guys, by the way, but frankly, we don’t need another Katie or Daegan or Mike or Ann or Ty, (unless your name is Katie, Daegan, Mike, Ann or Ty). What we really need is more YOU!

The best you is good enough (as long as you continue to get better).

I’m going to let you in on a little secret:  One person commenting on your blog that you follow up with,  reach out to and “friend” on Facebook, or send a personal email to is worth way more than 20 leads that you don’t connect with.

Relationships. Do you hear me? Relationships! See what I’m saying? Relationships. Can you feel me?

Don’t be alarmed, I was actually using some crazy hypnotic techniques on you there so you get my point. = )

The Big Takeaway.

Alright, here is the Big, Huge Takeaway (this is what you paid the big bucks for):  There are these cool things on a phone called buttons and when you push then in a particular sequence, you can actually reach someone and talk with them. Soooooooo..when you get a phone number, call it!

Now.

Yes, right now.

Some of you need to stop thinking about marketing and start selling some products and sponsoring some people!

We are in a crazy time in the world of Network Marketing and Internet Marketing. There are so many courses, products and training programs on the subject that I think many people have lost focus of their objective in the first place.

Bottom Line: “You get bogged down with stuff that doesn’t put money in your pocket.”

What to do?

Well if your objective is to make money, you do that by selling products and sponsoring others, right?

So, how much of your time are you dedicating to making calls to people to see if they are open to looking at an opportunity?

How much of your time is spent following up with people who have watched your video (or however you present your business)?

Last Thursday, I did an Internet Marketing Intensive Training Webinar on Twitter for my newest team members and while we went into some of the basics of setting up Twitter for success, we also spent a lot of time “going guerrilla” and finding people to connect with and call right now! If you are interested in the training, I am going to open it up to people outside of my team in September so stay tuned.

My point with all this is that if you have a choice between spending two hours studying WordPress widgets or two hours making phone calls to potential business partners, are you making the right decision?

I did not become a great blogger by thinking about blogging.  I became a great blogger (believe me, I use the term “great” very loosely) by writing something.  When I couldn’t think of anything to write, I found something neat that someone else wrote and let my readers know about it.

Here is the ultra cool thing about finding great stuff from other people to post on your blog:

If you go to MLMURLS.com and read some of the great blogs every day, posting a snip from your favorite article on your blog (with full credit of course), you will begin to form your own cool ideas that will eventually become a cool blog post of your own.

Tell Others About It

This is why I love Twitter.  For a long time, I didn’t really get Twitter, but that was before I found something that very few people know about:

Search.Twitter.com

Did you know that you can go to Twitter Search and find people who are interested in your niche that also live within a few miles of your home?

It’s absolutely insane, as if Twitter left it’s back door wide open for you with a note that says: “Have at the fridge, Bro”.

You follow people, some follow you back, then you share your blog posts with them.  Remember, they are also interested in your niche so they begin to look forward to what you are sharing.  You gain trust and confidence as a thought leader and trusted advisor.

Repeat

Do it every day, 5 days a week and watch what happens after a month.

Before they found the brain tumor, that is.

Heather Sugg, 36, a wife and mother of four, is suddenly in the fight of her life. The astrocytomas tumor, located in her left temporal lobe, is cancerous. And inoperable.

And in typical style, Sugg has a simple message for it as she readies for her first radiation treatment next week: Bring it on!
