A couple of weeks ago, several of my blogs were hacked. I don’t think it was a targeted hack, more like someone being malicious and attempting to spread harmful viruses across the internet. If you ever get hacked, be sure to bring in a professional so that your work can be salvaged. Do not try to repair your site on your own.
If you have not been hacked and would like to protect your blog from future attacks, here is a list of plug ins that you might want to consider:
1. WP Security Scan:
WP Security Scan checks your WordPress website/blog for security vulnerabilities and suggests corrective actions such as:
- Passwords
- File permissions
- Database security
- Version hiding
- WordPress admin protection/security
- Removes WP Generator META tag from core code
2. AntiVirus:
AntiVirus for WordPress is a smart and effective solution to protect your blog against exploits and spam injections. Malware protection for your blog.
3. Bulletproof Security:
The BulletProof Security WordPress Security plugin is designed to be a fast, simple and one click security plugin to add .htaccess website security protection for your WordPress website.
4. TimThumb Vulnerability Scanner
The Timthumb Vulnerability Scanner plugin will scan your entire wp-content directory for instances of any outdated and insecure version of the timthumb script, and give you the option to automatically upgrade them with a single click. Doing so will protect you fromhackers looking to exploit this particular vulnerability.
I always try to find the good in everything and I guess the good coming from the hacking of my site is a new dedication to providing all new content for TyTribble.com.
Thanks for this! I am going to install these on my own and my clients' sites. Having my sites hacked would be terrible, but it's a nightmare to have the potential of clients' sites hacked. Plus security is another selling point. Thanks Ty!
Thank you so much Ty, for the information in this blog. Right after reading your blog, I went straight to Plugins and downloaded and activated the ones you suggested. I hope my blog is never hacked because that would be devastating.
Great article Ty Tribble. Thank you for the info.
you said you are using a new host….does that mean your not using hostgator.com? maybe that is why you got hacked. never heard of hostgator before….
I was not hosting the site at HostGator.
I was not hosting the site at HostGator…
Great idea
2,3 and 4 are new to me so will check and see. Thanks for sharing Ty.

Ty, do I need to install these? I forgot to ask in my comment below? Or just pick 1? Thanks
-Sonny
They do different things, Sonny. Use all of them to be more secure.
Okay thanks Ty.
Hi Ty, great list. It is best to have all unless your theme conflicts, which it shouldn't. I learned this from Craig Desorcy. He said about passwords, "If you can remember your password you are not safe."
Thank you you are a blessing! I heeded your advice and installed and activated each plugin you suggested. I am just getting started in the blogosphere and I can't afford to have my site get hacked…again God bless you and thank you again.
